Short biography
I am a Senior Research Fellow in AI for Health at the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering and Research Department of Pathology at the University College London (UCL). I am a former Research Fellow at the UCL Dept. of Computer Science and at the IslandsLab group at the UCL Energy Institute. I am member of the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems (ELLIS) and a Honorary Research Associate in the Dept. of Computer Science at the University of Bristol. I have been a research scientist in Eurecat at the Big Data Analytics Unit. I got my Ph.D. at the Dept. of Mathematics and Computer Science, University of Barcelona, 2016. I received my B.S. degree in Computer Science in 2010 at the same university and my M.Sc. degree in Artificial Intelligence in 2012 at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. I have been member of the groups HuPBA and SUNAI at the Computer Vision Center and Open University of Catalonia. I was a visiting researcher at the group Qarma at the Laboratoire d'Informatique Fondamentalle (LIF), Aix-Marseille Université, with close collaboration with Prof. Isabelle Guyon, one of the co-inventors of the widely used Support Vector Machines (SVM). I am a former member of the scientific committee of the ChaLearn Looking At People, which is involved in challenges and competitions machine learning and affective computing. As part of the Program Committee, I have co-organized events, challenges and workshops in several conferences: ICCV2011, ICMI2013, CCIA2014, ECCV2014-2016, ICPR2016, and ICCV2017. I have participated in peer-reviewing processes for impact factor journals and conference proceedings in JMLR2014, TMultimedia2014, TPAMI2016, IET-CVI2016-2017, TTAC2017, ECCV2014-2016, ICCV2015-2017, CVPR2016-2017, and FG2017-2018. My main interests of research are the field of deep learning, including computer vision, pattern recognition, and evolutionary computation, applied to behavior analysis, healthcare, and social computing.
